Five Reasons to Grow Your Own

Cost Savings: Commercially produced fruits, vegetables, and herbs are expensive. This is not surprising when you consider many have travelled thousands of miles to reach your plate. With a large amount of consumers finding it more costly to eat healthier, they are turning to growing their own right in the comfort of their house and backyards.
Quality Control: Even with the quality control measures put in place, it is not a surprise to hear recalls on produce. By placing all stages of growth and harvest within the hands of consumers, the worry of consuming produce which has been grown using genetically modified organisms or sprayed with pesticides is eliminated.
Homegrown tastes better: Through selecting and breeding specific traits, strains sold in supermarkets are developed to produce higher yields per plant, have a longer shelf life, be uniform in shape and size, ship without bruising easily, and often times finish ripening on trucks during shipping. Even when you purchase organic produce, this breeding can compromise flavour. The taste and texture of a grocery store tomato cannot compare to one that is freshly picked from a plant growing in your own garden.
Greater Variety: When you have your own garden, the possibilities of what you grow are endless!
